Grandma's Cinnamon Buns

Grandma's Cinnamon Buns

The Athena Collection was inspired by my Grandma Verna Athena who also came up with this bread and cinnamon bun recipe when I was a little girl.

Grandma's Cinnamon Buns, 14-16 buns

1 egg
1 cup milk
1/2 cup warm water
1/8 cup oil
4 cups flour
3 tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
2 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast

Soft Butter, ~1/2 cup
Cinnamon, ~1/4 cup
Brown Sugar, ~1 cup
1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Put the first 8 ingredients in the bread machine and set to "dough".  Mine runs 1.5 hours, the dough setting on most bread machines is set for 1.5-2 hours in length.

Grease a 9x13 pan.  Melt 1/4 cup butter and mix with 1/4 cup brown sugar and pour into the bottom of the pan.  Set pan aside until dough is finished.

Once the machine goes off, remove the dough and roll out flat. I use my hands to butter the dough from edge to edge.  Once buttered, spread the brown sugar and cinnamon over the top and if including raisins, sprinkle over the top.  Starting from the long edge, roll up until dough forms a log.  Cut slices off the roll and place cinnamon side down in the greased pan with brown sugar/butter mixture in the bottom.

Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place (oven or microwave with no heat on) for 1 hour.  Bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes or until brown on top.  Flip onto a plate and serve.
A teacher by trade but outdoorswoman at heart, my Grandma was an amazing shot. My Grandpa was a trapper and the two of them would spend all their free time outside. She also liked to bake and this bread and cinnamon bun recipe has been around for as long as I can remember, it's pretty famous in my family.  Give them a try!  You'll see a few of her recipes popping up on my Life on the Farm blog, I hope you enjoy them!

BANANA COCONUT OAT MUFFINS

Banana's going brown? There's an app for that! Just kidding.

I really like this recipe because it has a lot of great adds: oats, coconut, vanilla, almond. It's a really nice variation.
